Prehabilitation -Sports Injury Prevention for All Athletes-   

 

 

Abstract:

Preparation of body before exercise beyond warming up but with more emphasis on functional readiness has been widely recognized as an important principle in athletic conditioning to prevent sports injuries. This is called “prehabilitation” and studies have reported that use of prehabilitation has reduced traumatic and chronic injuries by nearly 50% in young and female athletes. This presentation will discuss the use of prehabilitation in preventing sports injuries.

 

Background:

Norikazu Hirose is a Professor at Department of Sport Sciences, Waseda University, Japan.  He also serves as a physical coach for the National Women’s Soccer Team in Japan.  Hirose received a Bachelor degree from Waseda University and Master’s and Doctoral degrees from University of Tokyo.  After he had worked with several J-League (professional soccer league in Japan) Youth teams as an athletic trainer and physical coach for over 10 years, he started working with the National Women’s Soccer Team as a physical coach and contributed to their first FIFA title in 2011.  Hirose has authored several peer-reviewed publications and books for various populations on the topic of athletic training and conditioning.
