Lecture 2-B
The Possibility of Exercise Intervention in Medical Field and Collaboration with Athletic Trainers
Abstract:
Athletic trainers can promote the health of not only athletes and sports enthusiast but also people of all ages and conditions through exercise instruction. For example, athletic trainers can serve individuals with disabilities by developing rehabilitation programs for functional improvement. There are several hospitals where athletic trainers are working collaboratively with orthopedic surgeons, providing a holistic approach in assessing the cause of pain and correcting movement patterns. Furthermore, skills of athletic trainers are also applied in many other areas such as cardiac and cancer rehabilitation by instituting post-surgical conditioning programs and frailty prevention programs.
Exercise can prevent disease but can also be used for secondary prevention of functional disability and rehabilitation for non-athletic population regardless of their physical fitness. This lecture will outline ideas regarding the role of athletic trainers in the non-athletic population by presenting personal experiences with physicians and research on related topics.
