Athletic Trainers: Toward 2020 and Further
Abstract:
Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics Games will accelerate the globalization of the information and environment surrounding sports. Sports medicine is one of those areas. The value of exercises has changed drastically with accelerated information organization in recent years. The possibility of sports medicine application has expanded more than ever before. In such circumstance, what is expected for as athletic trainers? Furthermore, what is the role of the profession? This presentation will discuss those topics from a global perspective, reflecting its meaning here in Japan, where Tokyo 2020 is upcoming.
Background:
Masaki Katayose is a physical therapist and Associate Director at the Sports Medical Center of Sapporo Medical College Hospital in Japan. He received a master’s degree from the University of Alberta Graduate School, Canada, under the mentorship of Dr. David Magee. After returning to Japan, Katayose earned a PhD in Medicine from Sapporo Medical University and started working as a professor in 2007. He currently serves as the IFSPT Representative of Japan, Adviser to the Organizing Committee for 2020 Tokyo Olympic/Paralympic Games and JSPO-AT Vice Chairman.
