From the Battlefield to the Playing Field: Best Practice Performance Training Utilizing the U.S. Navy’s Operational Fitness and Fueling System (NOFFS)

Abstract:

This session consists of physical activity evidence-based best practices that are currently utilized in both the United States (US) military and in the professional sports arena to reduce the intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors that are associated with injury occurrence and to improve physical readiness. Injuries impose a greater ongoing negative impact on the health and readiness of military service members for US Armed Forces than any other category of medical complaint. To improve the resiliency and durability of service members, the United States Navy developed the Navy Operational Fitness and Fueling System (NOFFS).

NOFFS is an award-winning, evidence-based military performance training system that can dramatically affect physical performance, reduce injuries, and improve diet.  NOFFS has over 450 published references supporting its usage; can be utilized to improve health, fitness, and performance of athletes in large groups with minimal equipment; and has been shown to improve performance in the military by up to 22% with a reduction in musculoskeletal injury to 9%. Moreover, NOFFS can be readily implemented into any athletic training or performance training/sport, corporate, operational or individualized setting.

Following this session, attendees will have direct access to the NOFFS performance training system and will be able to implement the NOFFS standardized and evidence-based physical activity performance training and injury prevention guidelines into any setting –ranging from a personal exercise program to the implementation of a population-based (large setting).
